South Korea Revises Health Functional Food Labeling Requirements: New Certification Mark to Take Effect in 2028

On 15 September 2026, South Korea's Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) announced amendments to the Labeling Standards for Health Functional Foods, revising certain requirements concerning the labeling of health functional foods. The existing health functional food mark and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) mark for health functional food manufacturing were similar in color and appearance to the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) mark. This similarity could lead consumers to mistake ordinary food products for health functional foods.

Australia Approves Two Enzymes as Food Processing Aids

On 26 October 2026, two food standard variation instruments associated with applications A1345 (F2026L01415) and A1338 (F2026L01414) were registered on the Australian Federal Register of Legislation, approving dextransucrase (EC 2.4.1.5) and triacylglycerol lipase (EC 3.1.1.3) for use as food processing aids. Both variations are scheduled to be published in the Commonwealth of Australia Gazette on 29 October 2026 and will commence on the date of gazettal.

Japan Proposes Revising the Classification and Management Target Values of Pesticides in Tap Water

On 26 October 2026, Japan's Ministry of the Environment, through its Water and Air Environment Bureau, published a public consultation under case number 195260071, proposing revisions to the classification of pesticides in tap water. The deadline for submitting comments is 25 November 2026.
